I set of an LED light to capture this one with the lights turned off in my room to cast a shadow over part of my face. I blacked out the background in light room. I had a fake white rose and used a ton of oil to bring out that silver glow on my skin. I boosted texture, contrast, shadows, whites, and added a few gradients to bring out body shape. I loved this piece a lot and probably out of all of them is my favorite because I did not photoshop this piece, everything in it I edited in only lightroom so I felt very happy with the results.
This was was super fun to make. I threw on a bunch of coats to match the guy and stood in different poses like the subjects in the original and then went to photoshop to shape them and paste them with and over each other. I have a ukulele instead of a violin so it was easy to compose. The hardest part was trying to match the vintage gran faded effect that the original had which is just not as easy to be translated in digital format but I felt I did okay and this could have been done better. I thought the little devil little girl me was funny so this one was great. I added a lot of linear gradients to the edges to make it feel more like the original.
This one was another fun photoshop piece. The initial image was me sitting on my car then changing into the other outfit and putting my hair up king of squatting on my car. I then took a photo of a field behind my house and then photoshopped my car out of the photo and place me on a AI tractor. I photographed myself in a white sheet to be like a ghost and took a photo of my dog and lowered the opacity on that layer in photoshop and put smaller in the left corner of image to create distance like the original image. I added a mountain to the back and felt this one matched the aesthetic and vibe of the original I was very happy. Colors are not perfect and were challenging but overall I am happy with how they look.
This piece consisted of four images. I woke up early to go to the beach to capture the ocean in a gloomy and foggy look. This helped and I took two images of the sky that I knew I wanted to use as an overlay on top of the images. The Loch Ness monster thing was a drawing that I did on a white piece of paper and then I combined them all together to make the recreation. This was super easy and underwhelimg.
I was not excited to create this one because I knew it was going to take time but I love the result and the abstractness in this piece. You are looking at a total of 6 images that I compiled in a collage like stacking effect on Photoshop. I like the colors I used and wanted mine to not be an exact copy of the original but use the style she did because hers seemed very personal to her style I wanted to make mine out of the things in my home.
Backstory:
I decided to visit Mopa the day before Thanksgiving and I was trying to think of ways to lie about getting into the museum and even use my old Mopa sticker from a previous class but I didn’t. The doors were closed when I went to Mopa and I was unaware that Mopa was not opened the day before Thanksgiving like a dumb a**. I decided to check out an open museum in hopes of getting an inspirational exhibit to recreate 5 photos from there. I went to the Mingei International Museum and a lot of the artwork was multimedia art pieces and not very inspiring. I spent money to go in there so I feel bad. Afterwards, I went to the glass outside Mopa and saw James Balogs work barely from the outside glass. I saw nothing inspiring except tree shots and thought that was boring so I looked online at exhibits from Mopa to pick 5 from there. I have proof I went to Mopa and the Mingei Museum but I just wanted to express the truth. I didn’t like the collections because I felt I had seen more enticing images from my peers so it made me excited more to see where our work would end up in opposition to some photographs of trees that did not look manipulated at all.
